Volume 1 of this book describes the methodology applied by the author in sifting through the many books of traditions, history and exegesis. His modus opperandus was to keep the holy Quran as the bench-mark and to evaluate the various traditions within the context of the Quranic verses. Historical accounts were minutely scrutinized in light of the historians' allegiances and their reliability; while exegetes were examined for their biases and/or integrity. This first volume highlights the crucial role played by Ali Ibne Abi Taleb in the establishment and preservation of Islam from the first moment of its announcement to the migration of the holy Prophet from Mecca to the city of Medina. In addition, various verses from the Quran have been referenced for the benefit of the readers in an attempt to apprise and enlighten them of the elevated status of the Ahlul Bait [the family of the holy Prophet] in general, and Imam Ali in particular. Historical events have been discussed, ruminating on the opinions of a broad cross-section of many noted scholars - both, oriental and occidental. Several relevant verses of the holy Quran have been cited to identify the true believers as those who remained steadfast by the side of the Prophet in adverse circumstances, as opposed to those who precipitately deserted the Apostle abandoning him and the cause of Islam. This volume also casts a probing glance on some of the milestone events of Islam like the religious encounter [Mubahila] with the Christian delegation; the Treaty of Hudaibiya with the Qureish of Mecca and the Event of Ghadeer wherein the nomination of Ali Ibne Abi Taleb as the Lord and Master of the Muslims after him, was publicly announced by the Prophet.
